Unionville

Unionville

When it comes to Unionville, it is quite well-known among the Chinese community, and its history can be traced back to 1794 when early settlers established farms here over 200 years ago. Later on, several famous Canadian painters, known as the "Group of Seven," also settled in the area (Main St.), further spreading Unionville's reputation. Every summer, various activities centered around Main St. are colorful and vibrant, with flowers blooming on both sides of the street. Coupled with the preserved quaint buildings, distinctive bars, and leisurely crowds, it exudes the charm of a European town.

The geographical boundaries of Unionville are somewhat ambiguous, roughly stretching from Major Mackenzie Dr. in the south to Highway 407 in the north, from Highway 404 in the west to McCowan Rd. in the east. Due to space constraints, here we will introduce the central area of Unionville, between Warden Ave. and Kennedy Rd.

From north to south, two streams, Berczy Creek and Bruce Creek, converge into a water body within the area called Toogood Pond, not only forming extensive green spaces around but also serving as a natural park, a popular leisure destination. Adjacent to the pond are the art gallery, Unionville's Main St., the community center, and the surrounding luxury homes, making this area the cultural center of Unionville.

Public elementary schools in the area include William Berczy P.S., Parkview P.S., and Unionville P.S., all of which offer classes from kindergarten to eighth grade. William Berczy P.S. also has a Gifted Class program. The public high school is the renowned Unionville High School, located at the northwest corner of Warden Ave. and Highway 7. Speaking of this high school, one cannot fail to mention its specialty program, the Arks York Program, which allows students with talents in music, art, drama, or dance from York Region to enroll in its specialized courses through examination.

Throughout the entire community, apart from sporadic townhouses, most are double-garage detached houses, giving a sense of neatness and orderliness. In the summertime, with lush trees and blooming flowers, the streetscape is beautiful. The majority of homeowners in the area are Westerners, although there has been an increasing number of Chinese immigrants in recent years.

Looking at Unionville, it not only boasts million-dollar homes but also has cultural heritage, beautiful natural environment, first-class humanities, prestigious schools, and convenient transportation. These factors make it one of the fastest appreciating neighborhoods in recent years. For families who enjoy a peaceful and serene lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle, Unionville is a good choice.
